You Might Be Reading This All Wrong
Have you ever noticed that sometimes the harder you try to make something happen, the more stuck it feels?
Maybe you’re working toward a business or financial goal, a new opportunity, or even a personal dream.
You’ve got the vision, taking action, and doing all the ‘right things.’
But instead of feeling excited, you find yourself constantly wondering…
- Why hasn’t it happened yet?
- What am I missing?
- Shouldn’t I be further ahead by now?
If you’ve ever felt like this, you’re not alone.
I was watching a presentation recently about our need to control the how and when of our goals, and it made me think about how often we do this.
I mean, it's fairly easy to know what we want, but then we tighten our grip on how it’s supposed to happen and exactly when it should show up.
And the more I thought about it, the more I realized how often that grip is what creates the friction. When things don’t follow our timeline, frustration shows up fast.
Now, this doesn’t mean the desire is wrong. It just means we’ve started measuring progress against a version of the path we already had in our mind.
So, when things don't go exactly or in the timing you've set, how often do you start feeling like nothing’s working, even when things are actually moving?
The truth is, the more attached you get to a specific outcome, path, or timeline, the more pressure you end up putting on yourself.
You start looking at every delay as proof that something’s wrong. You start questioning yourself, your progress and goals. Sometimes even stopping yourself from moving forward altogether.
But what if the delay isn’t a sign that you’re off track?
What if it’s just a sign that things are unfolding differently than you expected?
One of my favourite reminders is this… ‘a delay is not a denial.’
Just because something hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it isn't happening. Sometimes pieces are still coming together behind the scenes in ways you can't yet see.
Think about some of the best things that have ever happened in your life. How many of them showed up exactly the way you planned?
Probably not many.
Often, the opportunities that change your life come through unexpected conversations, introductions, ideas, or circumstances you never could have predicted.
This has taught me that there’s a big difference between being committed to your vision and being attached to a specific route.
So stay committed to what you want, but also be flexible with the path.
Keep taking action, showing up, and doing your part. But allow room for possibilities you can't yet see.
One question I've found helpful whenever I catch myself trying to control the timing is…
What if things are unfolding in ways I don't yet understand?
This question instantly creates more peace, trust, and possibility.
Because the truth is, your next breakthrough may already be in motion. You just can't see all the pieces yet.
So if you've been feeling impatient lately, I invite you to keep the vision, continue to take action and trust the process.
And remember, not everything valuable arrives on your schedule.
Sometimes it arrives at exactly the right time.
