Let’s develop an attitude of gratitude

Gratitude is something I aim to practice every day of my life. I don’t always succeed, but I definitely strive for it. There are so many times in our lives when we forget how truly blessed we are and all the amazing things in our lives we have to be grateful for.

This is why I love Thanksgiving Day. Of course, we should not wait once a year to express our gratitude, but it is a great day and reminder for us to connect with our loved ones and express gratitude for all that we have in our lives.

One of the most powerful ways to bring even greater joy into our lives is to be grateful for what we currently have. You may not live in your dream house, nor have your dream career or business, but being grateful for the home and job you currently have will help bring in even more into those areas. We cannot be given more of anything, if we don’t first appreciate what we have.

Personally, I am so blessed to have an amazing family that is the foundation of my life.  I have a good career and a great business that is growing and one, which all the years of hard work and sacrifice definitely paid off.

During those difficult times, it was hard to be in a state of gratitude, but something that I learnt from Oprah, which I always advise others to do, was to count my blessings every day through my gratitude journal. This journal was something I kept and wrote at least 5 things a day that happened that I was grateful for.

This was so powerful for me for many reasons.

One, because during my day I would actively search for things that made me happy so I had something to write about. I truly believe that, whatever we look for we will find, so if I looked for something to be grateful for, I will find it.

Another benefit to my gratitude journal was that during difficult times, I would pick it up and read past entries. I would be reminded of all the kindness that was shown to me, and all the many ways that I was blessed. It never failed to lift my spirits and put me in a better mood.

Another great gratitude practice is gratitude intentions. This is when instead of worrying about what you want to bring into your life not happening now; you give thanks as if it’s already happening.

Really truly be in a state of gratitude as if you’re experiencing the outcome now. This will be the magnet that will draw it into your life faster.

So as we Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving Day, take a look at your life and look at all the ways you are blessed, and come share it with us below.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am truly grateful for you!
