Stop trying to find your Purpose!

I was speaking to a good friend recently, and she said something that I’ve heard so often from people.

She said something like,

“I feel like my whole life I’ve been trying to find my purpose and I can’t seem to find it. I just want to find my purpose!”

Like I said, this is a common statement that I’ve heard many times before. Chances are, you may have at one time felt like this or may be feeling this way now.

I have an interesting take on the whole purpose thing, which is really to just stop trying to find it.

Yes, I said it.

Stop trying to find your purpose!

There’s this notion that the reason we were put on this earth is to relentlessly go on a quest for our so-called purpose. But, the truth is, we don’t find our purpose or our passions.

They find us.

They find us once we surrender the need to know and trust that God/Universe is leading us to the best path for our life.  We are forever guided by our inner GPS.

Your purpose and passion also finds you once you start to bring them into everything you do, and live in that energy. The more you show up on purpose and bring passion into your life; you’ll get more of it.

Oftentimes, when you feel like you have to find your purpose, it feels too big and overwhelming. I’m reminded by the words of Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love and Big Magic. She said in a talk I heard to just ‘Follow your curiosity”.

Liz says, when we look to chase our passion, it becomes too big and a tall order.

Curiosity, on the other hand, is ‘always within reach’.

It’s much easier to see what truly interests you.

On one of her blogs she wrote,

“The trick is to just follow your small moments of curiosity. It doesn't take a massive effort. Just turn your head an inch. Pause for an instant. Respond to what has caught your attention. Look into it a bit. Is there something there for you? A piece of information?”

When you come at it from this perspective, you feel less pressure and have more fun.

To feel more on purpose and experience passion in your life, look to what brings you joy and happiness. When are you in your element? What inspires you? When do you feel most alive?

Find the theme within each happy moment and that is where your passion and purpose lies.

As you begin to focus and take action towards your happiness, your passion and purpose will naturally grow and you’ll begin to live each day on purpose and with passion.
