Life's a Mirror

Many spiritual and personal development teachers often speak about how our external circumstances are a reflection of what is happening internally.

This is something that has resonated with me and something that I refer to when I find myself in a state of resistance or when things around me seem to be out of alignment.

It is something I experienced several weeks ago.  It's very interesting how I can correlate these issues with when I've ventured off my spiritual practice.

At that time, I had not meditated in over a week, nor written in my gratitude journal and just felt like I was go go go and doing everything all on my own. This disconnect with my internal guidance system resulted in my outer environment being out of flow.

I was feeling stressed, less supported, and easily triggered by those around me.

Many times when situations like this occur, we normally look to others to blame and take on a victim role. It was difficult to do this at first, but I was able to shift my thinking and stopped judging the situation and people around me.

Before that, I was judging others for their actions and behaviours and then judged myself for allowing them to affect me when "I should have known better."

I had to turn off the judgement and turn on my forgiveness muscle in order for me to take back control of my state of being. I pulled out my spiritual toolbox and went to my affirmations, favourite blogs, go to books, and of course my meditation practice. I also listened to personal development lectures during my commute.

What this did was to shift my focus and outlook; very similar to a past post I wrote about changing your perspective. This gave me the ability to shift and raise my vibration to a more positive and empowered one.

I started taking control of the way I was feeling and stopped blaming others for triggering me and not acting in alignment with the way I expected them to. I did things to make myself feel good regardless of what was happening around me.

Magically, as my internal state changed to that of calm, peace, and happiness, the people and stress I was feeling also subsided. I felt more supported and at ease, all because I took control of the way I was feeling.

This proved to me just how true it is that we are a mirror. What is so amazing about this is that I did not have to change the other person or anything outside of myself.

All I had to do was change MY state and do things that made me feel good. This is something I have control over. It was a beautiful reminder to me and one that I hope will serve you when you find yourself in a similar situation.
